Elks Join Korea Units’ Orphan Drive

HQ., KBS, Pusan, Korea, Oct. 19 – Word was received by Lt. Col. Roy A. Davis, Junction City, Kan., commander of the 167th Transportation Truck Battalion that his Elk lodge is supporting the battalion drive to bring Christmas to Korean orphans.

Ted Biegert, secretary of Elk Lodge No. 1037, Junction City, Kan., stated in a letter to Davis that they are “fully behind the project.”  “We received your letter, regarding the orphans your outfit adopted for Christmas and we are pleased to report to you that the Elks lodge has undertaken this project,” Biegert wrote.

“So far, we have received a fine response to our plea, and we are just beginning.” the letter continued.  “We have received cash donations from several members.”

Upon receiving the colonel’s letter, the lodge printed post cards which explained the need for helping the Korean children.  The cards were sent to the entire lodge membership.
